The 80s Nostalgia Train is Still Barrelling Along and the Latest Throwback is This Bluetooth Cassette Player

The Hong Kong-based company that brought you the digital camera attachment that transforms your camera into a Polaroid is back with another product that’s dripping with nostalgia and making a bloody mess everywhere.

If you can stomach wading though walls of flowery text that’s barely containing its load as it waxes lyrical about the 80s, and harps on about the romanticism of anything and everything from the decade, you’ll find a novelty gadget with a price tag of £50 that plays cassettes.

Apparently the 80s wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, with NINM Lab opting to add a modern convenience to its It’s Okay cassette player with Bluetooth 5.0. So if you have a stack of tapes still lying around for some unfathomable reason, then you can pop them in and bust out your wireless headphones, or Bluetooth speakers.

The design is pretty cute, with three colours to choose from, all boasting a transparent cover, ensuring that everyone can see that yes, you do own cassettes still.

We all love the odd dose of hipster bollocks, and it’s a cute idea, but if you were cognisant for any portion of time during which cassettes tapes were a thing, you’ll know what a bugger they were compared to the fuss-free and convenient alternatives that are around today. No one wants to use a cassette. They’re shit.

But if you already own some, and would like a more convenient way to listen to your collection on the go, then the world’s first Bluetooth 5.0 cassette player for £50 isn’t so bad. If you threw your tapes out decades ago and are more than happy streaming music from a massive online library at any moment of the day, then It’s Okay is definitely not okay.

If you’re a miserable old killjoy like me, then it’s a novelty product, which immediately makes the price tag too high. Regardless, if this looks like your cup of tea, you can head over to the Kickstarter page to back the project.
